Wildlife
Deer of Corbett: Chital, Sambar, Hog Deer and Barking Deer
Deer are the everyday wildlife of a Corbett safari and the clearest signal of what else is nearby.

Who is who
- Chital (spotted deer) – reddish coat with white spots, often in herds.
- Sambar – India's largest deer, dark and heavy, usually near cover or water.
- Hog deer – smaller, low-slung and associated with tall grassland.
- Barking deer (muntjac) – small, shy, with a sharp bark that can signal a predator.
Reading alarm calls
When deer and langurs give sharp alarm calls, a predator may be moving. Guides often stop the vehicle and wait; being quiet in these moments often pays off.
