Jim Corbett Safari

A safari in Corbett is not one thing. It is a choice between zones, seasons and vehicles, and the right choice depends on how many days you have, who is travelling and what you hope to see.

How a Corbett safari works

Safaris run inside the zones of Corbett Tiger Reserve in two daily shifts, morning and afternoon. Each vehicle enters through a gate with a permit issued by the forest department and is accompanied by a forest guide. Entry is limited per zone and per shift, which is why availability, not price, is usually the deciding factor.

Wildlife sightings depend on season, weather and luck. Nobody can promise a tiger, and we do not. What we can do is help you pick the zone and shift that suit your dates and set realistic expectations.

Choosing between the zones

Zones differ in landscape, distance from Ramnagar, seasons of operation and whether you can stay inside. Our zone pages explain each one in plain language.

  • Bijrani – sal forest and grassland close to Ramnagar; a popular first safari.
  • Dhikala – deep inside the park on the Ramganga grasslands; entered via Dhangari gate and linked to forest lodges.
  • Jhirna and Dhela – the southern edge, with Jhirna historically open through the year.
  • Phato, Durgadevi, Garjia and Sitabani – newer or quieter routes worth knowing about.

Vehicles

Most visitors book a gypsy-style open jeep for their own group. Some zones also offer canter (shared open bus) seats, subject to current forest department arrangements. See our jeep and canter pages for what each means in practice.

What we do — and do not — do

Jim Corbett Tourism is a private travel company. Safari permits are issued by the forest department. We help you understand availability, choose the right zone and shift, combine safaris with a stay, and handle the practical side of a trip. We do not guarantee sightings or permit availability, and we will tell you when a date is not possible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a safari on the day I arrive?

Sometimes a small number of on-the-spot permits are available, but this cannot be relied on. Advance planning gives you the best choice of zone and shift.

How many safaris should I do?

Most visitors find two to four safaris across a stay give a fuller experience than one, because each drive is different. Our planner can suggest a structure for your dates.

Is a safari guaranteed to show a tiger?

No. Tigers are wild animals and sightings are never guaranteed.
